The power of consulting

It’s tempting to think that generally, the higher you go, the wiser you become. But that only happens in an area. As you go higher, you become more clueless about other areas of life.

Companies know this. They engage other companies in areas where they lack clarity to solve certain problems. They understand that with all their talented employees and their experiences, they can only be knowledgeable in a particular sphere or industry.

It’s not different from us humans.

Sometimes we’re so sure of our strategy to solve a problem. We’re certain about the decision we want to make. But when we share our idea with someone else who has the blessing of a more robust experience, we realise that our intelligence is limited. Our world view is constrained by our experiences.

Those who seem to have everything under control are consulting with others more experienced than them. These guys have made enough mistakes that qualifies their experience. Having such people in our lives who can offer us clarity is a blessing. Those who can easily take an helicopter view and look at us in the face and deposit sense in our account so we can make that transaction (decision) happen. Apparently, we have funds but not enough funds. At least sense can be borrowed. And we may not necessarily pay back.

There are challenges that we’re clueless about. And that’s fine. You’re intelligent and smart and we know that. But your intelligence and wisdom has limits. You need to engage someone with superior experience to offer you forward motion.

It’s called consulting.
