What people say matters

I know you must have heard people say ‘don’t care about what people would say’, don’t care about other people’s opinion’ etc. It’s been re-echoed so many times.

The thing is, at a level, what people say or think about you actually matters.

Their opinions affects you in some way.

What the employer thinks will determine if you would get that job. The opinion of the judges will determine if you will make it to the next round. What people say about you would determine if you would get that business contract or referral. Yes. It matters what people think. At some point, Jesus; the foremost Christian leader asked members of his leadership team: what do people think about me?

It matters because in some way, you have given them clues on what to think of you. You have given them a glimpse of you and so they have opinions about you in that light.

That’s why you should be conscious all the time to give us the best of you.

As a business person, it’s wisdom to know what others are saying about you, your business and the services you offer. Leaders understand that the opinion of others matters. It could be in form of criticism or otherwise.

After knowing people’s opinions, stretch a bit further to decide how to harness their opinion for yourself and others.

People’s idea about you is mostly based on the data (information) that you have consciously or unconsciously supplied to them.

Your job is simply to harness people’s opinions for your own good. Not to be brought down by them.
